Advanced driving & riding courses
Our courses are delivered by BGAM's volunteer Observers on behalf of IAM RoadSmart. It's coaching, not a lesson: you drive or ride your own vehicle on real local roads.
Advanced Driver
For any full licence holder who wants to drive more safely, smoothly and progressively.
Advanced Rider
For motorcyclists who want sharper observation, better cornering and more confidence on two wheels.
How it works
- Sign up and get matched with a local volunteer Observer
- Regular observed drives or rides at times that suit you
- Learn the IPSGA system and the principles of Roadcraft
- Practise until you're ready, then take the IAM RoadSmart advanced test with an independent examiner
Fully funded for 17 to 25 year olds
Young drivers living in the Scottish Borders can take the advanced driving course with the course and test fee covered. Parents and grandparents are welcome to apply on their behalf.
